Before it fell under the Khmer Regime (1975-1979), Cambodia was well-known for its tradition of organic silk-weaving. Aside from farming, many Cambodians in rural areas, especially women, also relied on weaving as a source of income. Unfortunately, the Khmer Rouge took away the lives of many great weavers and nearly caused our weaving tradition to fade away altogether. Ever since 2007, Khmer Artisanry has been gathering weavers in hopes of reviving the Cambodian tradition of natural dyeing and weaving with organic silk.
